Event Previews

A full Saturday and Sunday of college basketball; CBS, ESPN and Fox lead the way; No Jim Nantz yet

Lots of hoops this weekend between the NFL’s Conference championship games and the Super Bowl.
Random Notes:
  • Sean McManus, CEO of CBS Sports, told reporters on Thursday’s press conference Zoom call that he sees remote broadcasts being used after the pandemic on non-showcase basketball games, e.g. mid-majors.
  • Jim Nantz has got golf this weekend, The Farmers Insurance Open on CBS. He’ll be doing the commentary from his home office. Not sure when Nantz, the face of CBS Sports, will make his season debut. With this season’s nutty schedule, it might not be until the tournament.
  • Tim Brando has a Big East dandy this Saturday on Fox Sports. Villanova at Seton Hall
  • Spero Dedes who was hit with Covid-19 is back this Saturday. He’ll work with Bill Raftery on Mich State at Ohio State.
  • ESPN’s Doug Sherman and Cory Alexander are on Clemson at Duke. Cory rambles inexplicably. WHY/ He’s not funny. Not good. Doug doesn’t have the strong presence to shut him up.
  • Jac Collinsworth on NBCSN works LaSalle-VCU. Dad Cris, the football broadcaster and former wide receiver, played basketball growing up.
  • Boog Sciambi, the baseball voice who now is also the Cubs telecaster has Auburn at Baylor.
  • Ted Robinson surfaces again. He’ll do Oregon State at Baylor.
  • UNLV at Nevada has Darron Sutton and Doug Gottlieb. Sutton is the son of Don who died last week at 75. The great pitcher was a Braves broadcaster for 28 years. Daron himself did baseball in the past.
