Week #6 College Football: Fox has Big Ten biggie, #3 Iowa at #4 Penn State – Full listing + Notes

NOTES COLLEGE FOOTBALL – WEEK #6

  • I remember hearing this from both Marty Glickman and Al Michaels. When calling a huge game, don’t kill it in the opening quarter. Play it up less when you’re calling it. If it’s a Super Bowl, viewers know that they’ve tuned-in to the biggest game of the year. Don’t shout or be overly dramatic, it’s the championship game. Fans know what they’re watching. I say so in anticipation of Gus Johnson’s call tomorrow on Fox, #3 Iowa at #4 Penn State. He’s a screamer as we know. He should take a step back tomorrow.
  • As the season winds down, we’ll see whether Paul Burmeister who’s the radio announcer for Notre Dame  and a play-by-play broadcaster for NBC will be assigned ND games on the Peacock. Remember, Mike Tirico will be moving to Sunday Night Football succeeding Al Michaels. The other choice is Dan Hicks.
  • LA Kings voice Alex Faust has New Mexico at San Diego State.
  • Noah Eagle, all of 24, gets a college football game from CBS this weekend, #2 Georgia at #18 Auburn. He’ll probably be carded on his way in. The young man has talent. He’s Ian Eagle’s son.
  • Another of the gifted versatile broadcasters is Dave Flemming. If he had to do three different sports, all in one day, he’d do all flawlessly.
  • ESPN’s lead team, Chris Fowler and the babbler, Kirk Herbstreit are on the historic rivalry, Oklahoma-Texas, high noon Saturday.
  • Tim Brando and Spencer Tillman have another west coast game, Utah vs. USC at the historic LA Coliseum.
  • Veteran Beth Mowins has #19 Wake Forest at Syracuse. Beth has roots in Upstate New York.
  • Off baseball, Reds TV announcer John Sadak is back on football, SMU at Navy with Randy Cross.
