2023 Super Bowl

By the end of the day, we’ll know how Fox’ risk paid off. Will Burkhardt be better than Michaels or Buck?

What I remember most about covering a huge event is what I heard from Al Michaels who has done 11 on either ABC or NBC, starting in 1988 and ending in 2022. Use your voice humbly and modestly. It’s the Super Bowl for crying out loud!

Viewers and fans don’t need a lift from the on-air talent or hype for the biggest event of the sports season. Radio perhaps, more so,  for obvious reasons.  And Kevin Harlan does just so on Westwood One.

Who will preside over the game broadcast?

They’re just hours away from their debut and I wish the Super Bowl TV newcomers, Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen the best of luck.

As for play-by-play, I’ll be thinking about Michaels and Joe Buck. The latter left apparently on his own willingness, missing today’s opportunity to do yet another Super Bowl. Fox mistakenly never reached out to Al, dismissing the opportunity. It would have been perfect for both Michaels and Fox which also has rights to S/B in 2025.
