GREG PAPA AND BRENT MUSBURGER

Listening to the NFL radio broadcasts when out and about? Working Niners games in Northern California, Greg Papa has always been one of my favorites.

He always sounds like he’s reporting with an innocent license. Bay Area fans love him. He also did Warriors’ broadcasts with lovable poise. (Bob Papa, Left, Voice of 49ers)

When he had a conflict with team owner Mark Davis, Papa was let go. Brent Musburger took over in Oakland and continued in Las Vegas where he also continued a national show. Davis dumped Musburger and stripped him of his play-by-play gig. In the Bay Area, the top twenty play-by-play voices, included those stylized and deeply remembered.

In January 2017, Musburger left ESPN and ABC television networks after 27 years. He returned as the play-by-play voice of the Raiders from 2018 until 2022.

PETE ROSE

“Pete Rose was put on the permanently ineligible list for baseball in 1989. Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred is reviewing a petition by the family of the late Pete Rose to reinstate the all-time hits leader, ESPN reports. If reinstated, Rose, who died in September of last year at the age of 83, would presumably become eligible for election into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.” (from CBS Sports)
